My practice treats art as communication.

My work starts from research into injustices that are real but rarely noticed, the kind that seldom reach the news or everyday conversation.

Artist
statement

I am drawn to injustices that are hard to see at first. They are real, but ordinary enough that the news and the people around us rarely talk about them.

Each work starts with research into one of these issues. I have looked at how Asian women are portrayed in media, how pressure and trauma pass from parents to children, and how a city-owned hotel in Baltimore says very little about the city around it. I use installation, sculpture, sensors, projection and film to bring that research to an audience. Most of the pieces only open up when someone touches, lifts or walks into them, because these issues also only appear when someone looks closer.
